Decided to change my HIIT a little today, and so decreased my work by five seconds, and my recovery by twenty seconds - making it an even split of work to recovery.
Certainly got a sweat on, and with the reduced amount of recovery the session was obviously shorter, giving me more time to get on with weights... Except after pushing myself with the weights - increased my dumbell shoulder press by 1kg to 9kg each arm - I triggered a muscle in my neck that's been getting tight the last couple of weeks from climbing, which meant I had to abort soon after! Grr! .

💪 Cheeky little resistance session:
- dumbell curl and overhead press 8kg x 10 reps x 2 sets, 9kg x 10 reps
- lateral shoulder raise 5kg x 10 reps x 3 sets
- front shoulder raise 5kg x 10 reps x 2 sets - tricep pulldown 12.5kg x 10 reps

Hard work is chalky hands, and sweaty feet.
Hard work is cuts and calluses.
Hard work is bruises and scrapes.
Hard work is having to think about your next three moves whilst precariously balancing on a hold the size of a postage stamp.
Hard work is screaming and encouraging your mate to push up, then your mate screaming the exact same at you, right after.
Hard work is also laughing till your abs ache.
Climbing doesn't always feel like hard work, and your body doesn't even always tell you it's doing that hard work. But you know you've done the hard graft when you can push yourself that little bit further each time you go back.
This is why we climb.

Filming yourself in the gym can be quite useful - if you don't mind the stares and confusion from others in the room!

Looking back at this clip I can see my forearms are probably raised too high at the end of the exercise, but this was right at the end of my workout so I'm not going to go too hard on myself ☺

Form starts to fail with exhaustion, so at least I know I put my all into my workout. .

Muscular injuries suck! .
I can only assume that it's as a result of the many crashes I had last weekend in my hang gliding lesson, that I've done something to my left thigh and glute.

I've been climbing three times this week, and tried not to put too much pressure on it - difficult when climbing harder routes as they inevitably involve more legwork, usually single leg presses rather than climbing with arms to pull get you up the wall 😔 .
In the meantime I'm trying to keep gym workouts to arms and core, with a little leg work thrown in where I can ☺ this Turkish getup is one of those where I let myself off! I've not really done much with kettlebells before, but I'm now giving them a go as they can be great compound exercise (using large muscle groups rather than singling out the smaller muscles individually).

over a year of living with little-legs & we're very almost at the point where my flat is *our* space, rather than *his* space!

his playpen and toys are much less a feature/eyesore in the room, and I no longer feel like I live in a kennel!

having watched the recent interior design show on the beeb, I felt inspired to shake up the space; to tone down the stark 'newness' of living in a new build, and play with more colour and patterns.

I'm still not finished with it, and there's still things I want to play about with, but I really love coming home to my little sanctuary. especially when I'm greeted by this daft little fella!
